It was a pleasure to be able to see the wide variety of work being produced by CIVA clay artists. It is also a great encouragement to me to read the many statements - and explanations - of these artists and hear the deep passion and commitment not only to the arts but also to the Lord and to His gift of creativity. I was very much pleased with G.E. Colpitts’ work. It had a refinement of idea and form that is rarely found in the visual arts. Her work came as close to a totality of clay visual expression as I have seen. Her forms, both inside and out, her surface treatment and her patina choices were all pure and exacting. Dong Hee Suh’s work also had a purity of form in the tradition of East Asia and his natural surface treatment underscored that tradition.
